April 3–9, 2018 | Malaysia

GCR member Prof. Sze-Wing Tang visited several universities and institutions in Malaysia from 3–9 April 2018. During his visit, Prof. Tang met colleagues in charge of the Department of Chinese Studies, the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, and the Institute of China Studies at The University of Malaya, the School of Language Studies and Linguistic at The National University of Malaysia, the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication at Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the School of Chinese Language and Culture at Xiamen University Malaysia Campus. He introduced the research programs of the Faculty of Arts, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, and the exchange programs for undergraduate students, if any, to interested colleagues and students.

Prof. Tang also visited the New Era University College and The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (“Dong Zong”) and shared his views on teaching Chinese grammar. Possibilities of cooperation between CUHK and various universities in Malaysia were also explored to further promote comparative research; for example, by organizing theme-based workshops on comparative grammar and applied studies of Chinese language under the Belt and Road Initiative.
