Attending the Symposium on Hong Kong’s Development: New Impetus, New Prospects

Hosted by the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, and organized by the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, with the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies as one of the supporting organizations, the Symposium was held to discuss the future development of Hong Kong. Prof. Fanny M. Cheung, Co-Convenor, Prof. Siu-kai Lau, adviser, and Dr Victor Zheng, Coordinator of the GCR, were invited to attend the Symposium. 

Prof. Lau gave the keynote speech on understanding the speech given by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Hong Kong on 1 July 2017. He said that President Xi accurately pointed out the problems that Hong Kong encountered when implementing the arrangement of “One Country, Two Systems”, and that President Xi’s speech has smoothed the path to the development of “One Country, Two Systems”. Dr Victor Zheng spoke on “The Belt and Road and Hong Kong’s New Opportunities”. The Symposium was attended by more than 200 guests.
