Attending the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)–University of Macau (UM) Joint Conference 2017

This is the fourth conference co-organized by the UM and the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific. The Conference was titled “Modernization of National Commercial Laws and the Role of Harmonization of Laws in International Trade and Commerce”. During this two-day conference, scholars and experts discussed contemporary and international legal issues arising out of various UNCITRAL texts and current and future matters relating to the harmonization of laws. 

This year, GCR member Prof. Lutz-Christian Wolff was invited to serve as a panellist and as a chairperson of one of the panels. He presented his paper, entitled “Legal Harmonization in the Belt and Road Area: Towards Flexible Commercial Law?”. He also chaired the sixth panel session on the second day of the conference. The theme of that panel session was the “Settlement of Commercial and Investment Disputes along the One Belt, One Road: The Relevance of UNCITRAL Standards”. 

The conference consisted of a keynote speech session and six panel sessions. Exchanges of ideas took place among experts and scholars from various countries.
