Opening Ceremony of the Marden Belt and Road Liberal Studies Centre

Prof. Stephen W. K. Chiu, Co-Convenor of the GCR, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Marden Belt and Road Liberal Studies Centre on the afternoon of 15 February 2017 in Caritas Tuen Mun Marden Foundation Secondary School. 

The Representative of the Belt and Road Office under the Chief Executive’s Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Dr Joseph Lee, the Chairman of Wofoo Foundation Limited, and Mr Joe Ka-shing Ng, the Principal Education Officer (Curriculum Development) at the Education Bureau, officiated at the ceremony. Representatives of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and of Xinhua News Agency also attended the event. At the ceremony, Prof. Stephen W. K. Chiu was also appointed to serve as an adviser to the Centre. 

A proportion of the students at the school are from ethnic minority groups, and some may come from Belt and Road regions. The Centre presents information about the living cultures in the Belt and Road regions, to enrich the students’ understanding of these regions. The food and traditional clothing of different South Asian ethnic groups in the school, such as Pakistanis, Nepalis, and Indians, are exhibited. The Centre is open to students from kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools. Guided tours will be organized by the Centre, with students serving as guides.
