The 9th International Conference of the International Society for the Study of Chinese Overseas (ISSCO) took place in Vancouver, Canada from July 6-8, 2016. Founded in 1992 by Professor Wang Gungwu (GCR Adviser) and Professor Wang Ling-chi, the ISSCO is a multidisciplinary scholars’ group that seeks to promote research and understanding of the historical and contemporary experiences of Chinese migrants and their descendants living outside of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

This year, the GCR Programme’s adviser Prof. Wong Siu-lun and research coordinators Dr Victor Zheng and Ms Wan Po-san attended the conference and presented their papers.

They joined the post-conference activity, entitled “Community Dialogue: Chinese-Cuban Connections” on July 10th. Scholars and researchers on the research topic of Chinese in Cuba had a dialogue with local community members to explore Chinese-Cuban connections and the impact of migrant workers from China to Cuba.
