Attending the Conference on Big Data and Courts in China

The conference was held by Institute of East Asian Studies; Global South Studies Center, the University of Cologne. The main aim of the conference was to analyse changes in laws and legal institutions triggered by big data, AI, and data-driven assessment systems of behaviour.


Prof. Chao Xi and Prof. Lutz-Christian Wolff, GCR members, were invited to chair panel sessions and gave presentations. Prof. Xi chaired the panel session “Big Data and AI as Methodological Challenge”. Meanwhile, Prof. Wolff chaired the panel session “Adjudicating in Times of Big Data” and gave a presentation entitled “Comparing Chinese Law – Will AI Soon Take Over?”.
